A Cold, Rainy Friday Afternoon at the Haikulodeon 4-12-2013

Here’s this week’s heap of haikus:

Warmed-over coffee
fills my mug like an old friend
who slept on the couch.

————————————–

An island sunset,
the sky aglow with passion …
here I sit … alone.

————————————–

 Know above all things …
That no-one can rule your thoughts.
Your Life’s yours to live.

————————————-

Dogwood trees in bloom!
Spring’s celebration of joy
in Riverside Park.

—————————————

Double haiku:

Tulip bulbs planted
upside down, still find a way
to reach the surface.

(I don’t mean China,

Where they hang like chandeliers

and fall out of beds.)

——————————————

Texting’ at Starbucks;
The Algonquin Roundtable
For witless slackers.

—————————————-

 A chill in the air.
I go back in my house to
look for my jacket.

—————————————–

Boisterous hellos!
But chats with “friends” will end with
“promises” to call.

——————————————-

In the space behind
the store’s sign, a dried-up leaf
survived the winter.

—————————————–

tanka haiku:

I spotted a bird.
Which is not as easy as
spotting a leopard.

At least the leopard stood still.
Birds keep shaking off the paint.

———————————————–

The overhead pipes
look like bloated spaghetti.
ceiling al dente.

————————————————

double haiku:

Old woman shuffles
Guy with beard argues on phone
Youngster bounces ball

Small bird pecks and hops
Delivery boy parks his bike
The sidewalk sees all.

————————————————-

You will have issues
if you misuse tissues, so …
no hanky-panky.

—————————————————

double haiku:

Walking and walking
I feel I can’t go on … Then,
a field of daisies

revives my spirits,
and in the distance, I see
the goal line ahead.

——————————————————–

tanka haiku:

The curve of her waist,
the creases of her smile, the
wisdom in her thoughts.

She slowly consumed all his
waking moments … then, his dreams

———————————————————-

 Before the beguine’s
begun to beguile, betray
a beignet, okay?

(For my friend Anna, who was in New Orleans last week)

—————————————————————-

Eschewing sunsets,
he loved the subtler hues
of mid-afternoon.

———————————————–

And now a word from our passion; AS advocacy …

This is one of my favorites. Mr, Smith is having trouble with his eyes right now. I hope his vision gets better.
